Total Maximum Daily Loads are increasingly identifying stormwater as a significant or even major source of loading to impaired waters. Stormwater loading is difficult to identify and quantify even when regulated stormwater dischargers exist in the system. Often, TMDLs that include stormwater loading allocations give target reductions in loading, but give little guidance as to how to obtain those reductions and quantify when those reductions have been achieved.
This teleconference will first give a brief background of TMDLs. The presenters will then explain how regulated and nonregulated stormwater can be and have been included in TMDLs, giving specific examples from around the country. The teleconference will end with discussion of how stormwater entities can begin to address the requirements of TMDLs including best management practices and monitoring strategies.
Learning Objectives:
- You will be able to review TMDL background.
- You will be able to explain MS4s and stormwater in TMDLs.
- You will be able to review case studies.
- You will be able to describe addressing TMDLs from the perspective of a stormwater manager.
